TUTOR - Math, Science, Writing, Social Sciences, ACT, SAT

I am a Eugene, Oregon-based tutor specializing in math, science, ACT prep, and SAT prep.  I cover all levels including elementary, middle school, high school, and college level courses.  I also do long-distance internet sessions (via Skype or Facetime) to students who don't live locally.

My tutoring studio also covers all middle and high school courses - including English, writing, languages, and social sciences. I cover all topics for the ACT and SAT standardized exams.

I help students keep up with their homework, prepare for exams - including standardized tests, and most importantly LEARN and UNDERSTAND their course material.  I love math and science, and I enjoy helping others learn to love it, too.

I also help students with science projects and help them test out of college courses.

I have a Ph.D. in Biochemistry from Yale University.  During graduate school I taught and mentored inner-city middle school students.  I have been tutoring students since I was in high school.  I specialize in explaining hard-to-understand topics in a way that is clear and accessible.  I frequently use analogies and memory devices to help my students understand and remember challenging concepts.

Let me put my expertise to work to help you learn!

Cancellation Policy

If you know you are not going to be able to make it to your tutoring appointment please let me know 24 hours in advance.

I allow everyone one "free pass" for emergencies or no-shows.  I realize that things come up and that life can be disorganized so I understand that there will be times that students won't be able to come.  You can use the "free pass" for either a no-show or a same-day cancellation.  The second time there is a no-show or a same-day cancellation I will need to charge you - half my hourly rate for a same-day cancellation, and full rate for a no-show.

Occasionally I have students say they don't need to come that day because they have no homework.  Even if the student doesn't have homework then we can still review their material.  We can also use that time to do standardized test prep for the PSAT, ACT, or SAT.  If you get to the point where the student doesn't feel like they need tutoring anymore then of course that is just fine!  There is no need for them to hold on to a time slot.  Just let me know.

"Miracle worker!  That is what we call Rachel.  She is a master in her field and has a distinct gift of helping others become masters in both math and science.  My son who was enrolled in an advanced biology class in college received a 49% on his first exam. Rachel came on board and he ended up finishing in the top 3% of the class of 900. GO RACHEL!!  We will always be grateful for her professional services."

Wow! We are so grateful for Rachel.  She helped our daughter raise her ACT score by several points in a matter of 2 months.  Rachel sat down with our daughter and found out her weaknesses on the ACT.  Rachel tailored her instruction to help our daughter strengthen her weaknesses.  Best of all, throughout this process, Rachel gave our daughter an inner confidence.  She is superb at helping students believe they are capable of doing great things. Thank you, Rachel!!

"Rachel is a professional who takes tutoring seriously. She allows her student the entire time and attention for the duration of time allotted for tutoring. She goes beyond what is required in preparing study guides for the student. She gives home-work assignments and works side by side with her student in gaining confidence, proficiency and knowledge.  She is totally dependable and maintains a positive and encouraging environment which produces results.  She is not only well qualified scholastically but she is gifted with verbal skills that allow students to be taught and succeed and soar under her tutorship. Her sterling character and her love for teaching make her the very best fit for students who have the desire to do well in college."

"I'm a 23 year old student at UNLV and can only say that Rachel Anderson single handedly saved my college career. As a student at UNLV, I waited too long to enroll in a math class utilizing my SAT scores from high school. In order not to prolong my college career I had to take a placement test. My goal was to test into the highest class possible. With Rachel's help not only did that happen, but I also tested out of all undergraduate math classes. Rachel has been the best teacher I've had throughout all of my schooling. Not only did she save me thousands of dollars in tuition for the multiple classes I would have had to take, but I actually for the first time have confidence in my ability to comprehend and analyze all forms of mathematic problems. I would highly recommend tutoring from Rachel and will undoubtedly continue to use her throughout the remainder of my college career."
